Event Details

On Friday, February 18th at 6:00 PM the Williamson Museum will host a reception in honor of Dr. James Lee Dickey, the first African-American doctor in Williamson County. The reception will peak with the unveiling of the reinstated Dr. Dickey mural at the Williamson Museum, and will feature oral history accounts of Dr. Dickey’s lifesaving work, as well as speakers from Huston-Tillotson University, Round Rock Black History Organization, the Georgetown Cultural Citizen’s Memorial Association, and the Dickey Museum.

Dr. Dickey was a humanitarian, civic leader, social justice advocate, and pioneering medical practitioner who stopped a typhoid epidemic in Taylor, founded the county’s first medical clinic serving Black patients, and dedicated his life to the underserved residents of Williamson County.

The event is free, but donations will go toward the completion of the Dickey Museum and Multipurpose Center, whose mission carries on Dr. Dickey’s legacy of health education and community service.
