Join us for an extraordinary musical experience as East meets West in this captivating concert. Featuring Southwestern University Faculty cellist Hai Zheng and renowned guest Guzheng Artist Madam Shao Jingqun, this event promises to be a true celebration of cultural fusion.
Immerse yourself in the enchanting sounds of the Guzheng, also known as “The Oriental Piano,” a musical instrument that holds a special place in China’s rich heritage, with a history spanning over 2500 years.
Madam Shao, a distinguished Guzheng virtuoso and the master teacher of the Texas Guzheng Music Band in Austin, brings her exceptional talent to the stage. Recognized as the “Eastern Music Ambassador” and honored with the prestigious “Distinguished Texas Musician Award,” Madam Shao will mesmerize the audience with her solo performances of Guzheng classics such as “High Mountain & Running River” and “The Spring Water is Flowing.”
Adding to the allure of this concert, cellist Hai Zheng will showcase her virtuosity with cello solo works by Zhou Long, including a set of 8 Chinese folk songs. In a unique collaboration, Hai Zheng and Madam Shao will come together to create a harmonious blend of East and West, performing captivating duo works such as An Xiang, The Moon’s Reflection on the Second Spring, and Nostalgia by talented Chinese composers.
