Reception: Friday, May 19, 4-6 p.m.
Location: Cafe Gallery
Gretchen Peterson Johnston has deep roots in Georgetown, Texas. Her grandparents and father were born here, as well as numerous extended family and in-laws. Gretchen has been evolving her artistic expression for decades, designing clothing; creating sterling silver artisan jewelry; painting portraits and
landscapes in a variety of media; faux finishing luxury homes; painting theater sets and murals.
This collection of paintings explores areas in and around Georgetown that we all have seen but may not immediately recognize. . .the hidden back alleys, green spaces, and industrial structures that will seem familiar and have us asking “where is that?!” Otherwise unglamourous views can become studies in light, shadow, and texture.
Gretchen works by commission for portraiture and specialized landscapes.

The Georgetown Public Library hosts “Live Music at the Library” at 2 pm the third Sunday of most months of the year; the concerts are free and open to the public, and no longer require registration. Seating is limited to 200 attendees.
Joseph Palmer has earned a reputation as one of the most captivating and dynamic performers on the American guitar scene. In 2015, he joined the team at Austin Classical Guitar (ACG), and gives over 50 interactive concerts each year throughout the public schools, retirement
communities, juvenile detention centers, and other communities in the greater Austin area.
As an extension of his work with ACG, Joseph is the co-creator of the world’s first classical guitar educational resource for people with blindness/visual impairment, which was launched in Summer 2018
(letsplayguitar.org).
Joseph is the guitar instructor at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He also runs a robust private studio of young guitarists in Austin. ‘It’s All About the Lights’ is a one-person show by local artist LaWann Tull. It is a multi-subject exhibit centered on emotion and contains dramatic light and atmospheric effects leading the viewer’s eyes through the artwork. The exhibit is composed of new and some retrospective paintings of animals, people, still life, and landscapes.
“I paint the things I most deeply respond to and have been described as a whimsical and romantic painter using bold color. During a recent show in Italy a guest likened my paintings to being in a dream which thrilled me! I paint idealism to stimulate the imagination. My art is set apart from most oil painters by my use of an indirect technique from the Old Master’s that creates depth, glow and colors mixed optically that don’t exist in a tube.”
LaWann Tull is a native Texan and resides in the hill country that she loves outside of Georgetown.
“I grew up in West Texas and following graduation I landed my dream job as a sales agent for two international airlines. Exposure to art museums worldwide and scenery that only seemed to exist in the movies has influenced my style and artistic expression. Italy is my favorite destination of mine to return to study. I have been influenced and painted with some of the most notable artists and teachers in the nation including Daniel E. Greene, David Chiefetz, Vie Dunn-Harr, Lajos Markos, William Henry Earle, Dick Turner and Georgetown’s own infamous artist, Dalhart Windberg.”

Swing Shift cooks. Period. The Austin band is led by Johnny Serrano – guitarist, banjo player, swing dancer, and New Orleans native. And just as Crescent City chefs combine secret gumbo ingredients so wonderfully, Swing Shift superbly blends the tuneful makings of hot jazz. What started out as a traditional jazz band, has grown to include 30’s and 40’s swing music. Besides leader Johnny Serrano, the other members are: Sean Newton – cornet and vocals, Don Denzin – clarinet and saxes, Dave Stoddard – valve trombone, and Bill Troiano – sousaphone. Swing Shift has performed all over the Austin area for the past 12 years. Some of the band’s more popular annual performances are at the Georgetown Wine Swirl, at Dell Diamond for the Round Rock Express, and for the Austin Traditional Jazz Society concerts. The band can also be heard at various private parties, at senior centers, and at breweries around the area.
