“I like being in motion to keep my mind open to new ideas and new ways of creating, whether it is by style, material or subject matter. I need to do this even if it means not being recognizable or famous for doing one type of art. Using different materials, subjects and styles keeps me interested in art. I don’t get bored then by doing the same thing. When I am in between commissions, I get to have fun experimenting with some of my own projects. When I do these different kinds of art, I do it to learn. When I find something I like, I usually will do a series. I like to have polished surfaces on the metal and layering of translucent chemical colors. It gives luminous and dramatic effects. On most new pieces, I am moving away from the more traditional patinas by the use of bright color and polished metal to give a bold contemporary look. The last few years my main focus has been on the series, “Bright Spaces and Missing Pieces”, of which “Moment of Reflection” is a part. It has kept my interest in art at a high level.”Dan Pogue
