“Waterin’ the Work Mules” by Bob Coffee

“Waterin’ the Work Mules” by Bob Coffee is on the northeast corner of Main and Seventh streets on the downtown Square. Made of bronze, it was commissioned by the City’s Arts & Culture Board in 2008.
The sculpture references a time in Georgetown’s past when work mules were tied to hitching posts and watered on the Square. From 26 proposals, a panel of four citizens and three members of the City’s Arts & Culture Board selected Coffee’s design, and the sculpture was installed on March 10, 2009. Coffee is an internationally recognized sculptor who grew up in north Texas and has lived in Austin for many years.
